Why we collect VIN details

Accountability without public exposure.

Stolen off-road bikes, motocross bikes, trials bikes, quads, ATVs and side-by-sides can sometimes be difficult to trace. Requiring VIN or frame-number evidence helps discourage anonymous or dishonest listings and creates a dated private record linked to the seller and advert.

This is not about treating sellers with suspicion. It is about making the marketplace more accountable while giving genuine sellers a way to show they supplied identifying evidence when the listing was created.

We collect this information for fraud prevention, marketplace integrity, buyer and seller protection, and to help review genuine disputes if a vehicle is later reported as stolen, fraudulently advertised or involved in an ownership concern.

Two Wheel Trading does not claim ownership, legal control or official authority over any VIN, frame number or vehicle identity. Sellers provide this information so the platform can keep a private accountability record linked to the advert.

How the process works

What buyers can see

A clear status, not private data.

Buyers may see a simple verification status or badge showing that the required information has been submitted. They must never see the full VIN or frame number, private verification photograph, internal review notes or the seller’s private account information.

When information may be reviewed

Access is limited and purpose-led.

Authorised Two Wheel Trading personnel may review verification records when there is a credible reason to do so. This includes fraud prevention, protecting marketplace integrity and helping investigate genuine disputes. Information will not be sold or made available for public searches.

Where available, Stripe billing name and address details may be kept as supporting identity information linked to the seller account and verification record.

The system is designed so VIN/frame evidence is not part of normal browsing or public listing management. It should only be opened through restricted admin tools where there is a proper review reason.

When full verification evidence is opened, the admin must provide a review reason and that access should be recorded in an internal audit log.

Seller protection

Built to Protect Sellers as Well as Buyers

The record is not designed to point blame or automatically label someone as a thief. It can help establish what information and evidence a seller supplied when the listing was created, which may also protect an honest seller if questions arise later.

Buyer responsibilities

This applies across enduro bikes, motocross bikes, trials bikes, quads and side-by-sides.

Privacy and data handling

Private verification records are separate from public listings.

VIN details and verification photographs are private. They are only available to appropriately authorised personnel and protected by reasonable technical and organisational security measures.

Seller membership level, Stripe customer/subscription references and Stripe billing details may also be stored privately with the verification record where they are needed to support fraud prevention, marketplace integrity or dispute review.

Private verification records are not public proof of ownership, not an official police check and not a guarantee that the vehicle is legitimate. They are a private accountability record to support safer trading and help review issues if they arise.

Verification records are kept for 90 days after a sale is marked as completed, unless they are reasonably needed for an active dispute, suspected fraud, suspected theft, misuse investigation, legal requirement or platform safety review.

Your data rights

You can ask about the verification data linked to your account.

Users can contact Two Wheel Trading to ask about personal data held about them, request a copy, ask for incorrect information to be corrected, object to certain processing, or request deletion where the law allows it.

Some requests may need identity checks before we can respond. We may also need to keep limited information where it is required for fraud prevention, marketplace integrity, an active dispute, legal obligations or platform safety.

Technical privacy requirements

How this must be built when the marketplace becomes live.

Never include a VIN in page URLs. Never expose VIN details in page source, public APIs, analytics, notifications or frontend logs. Never use VIN photographs as public media-library files. Prevent search-engine indexing of all private verification files and endpoints. Require authentication and appropriate authorisation for all private record access. Record internal access to verification information in an audit log. Mask VIN numbers wherever the full value is unnecessary. Ensure deleting a public listing does not expose or orphan private verification files. Keep public listing data separate from private verification records. Do not implement this as frontend-only protection.

Is my VIN displayed publicly?

No. The full number and supporting photograph remain private.

Does verification prove that the seller owns the vehicle?

No. It confirms that the required evidence was submitted but does not prove legal ownership.

Does Two Wheel Trading perform an official stolen-vehicle check?

Not unless a specific checking service is later integrated and clearly identified. Buyers should continue to carry out independent checks.

Will my information be passed to other people?

It will not be routinely shared, sold or made public. It may be disclosed where legally required or where reasonably necessary to investigate suspected theft, fraud or misuse of the platform.

Can verification protect sellers?

Yes. The stored record may help show what information and evidence the seller supplied when the vehicle was advertised.

What happens if I suspect a stolen vehicle?

Report the listing and do not confront anyone or put yourself at risk.
